A crystal chandelier is intricate and precious. Dealing with any suspending light is difficult and must be done carefully and meticulously, add the fragile nature of crystal pieces and you find yourself confused and nervous to start the project. No worries to all, here, we provide you with step by step information to successfully suspend your crystal chandelier while avoiding any accidents.
Finding the right place to install you chandelier.
Before you begin measuring chain lengths and drilling holes, you must know where your chandelier will be hanging. Chandeliers are used in many rooms of the house, centered to a spiralling staircase in the hallway, above the table in the dining room, at the center of a large living room; these are a few great options to consider. Next, you will need to know how low your chandelier will be suspended. Taking the example of the dining room, suspending your light too low will disrupt the view of your sitting guests and too high makes the chandelier seem out of place and awkward. The best way of measuring the height is to, generally after centering it to your table, measure between 30 and 36 inches from the lowest point of your fixture to the table.
Beginning the work.
The prep work is just as important as the actual installation of each crystal or crystal branch on the chandelier. Once you have found and noted the location in which you will install your crystal chandelier, shut off the power circuit* in which your suspending light will be connected to and verify with a circuit tester that all electrical supply to this circuit is indeed turned off. Once you have established that it is safe to begin work, you must drill a hole to introduce the hardware that will be holding the chandelier (this is assuming that there is no existing light fixture at this location). Making sure that you have the right fixture that will bear the weight of your light is a crucial step.
Your next step is to locate the proper wires needed; the phase, the neutral, and the earth wire, mark them and keep them separated.
Before hanging up the lighting fixture, assemble the major parts (not including the bulbs and crystal pieces). Next is to hook the chain to the chandelier, measure the chain and unhook the chain loop, at the right level, with a pair of pliers. Once your chain is at the right length, proceed by running the electrical wire through it, skipping every other loop. Expose roughly an inch and a half of wire to attach the phase, neutral, and earth wire to their respective ceiling leads using wire connectors. The following step is to bolt the fixture to the ceiling using the material provided.
Once the fixture is up and secured in place, screw in the light bulbs, turn the power back on and test that everything is working right. Finally, it is time to incorporate the crystals one by one. If there is a specific design or pattern, follow the installation instructions.
*Please note that installing anything involving electricity which should not be taking lightly and can be dangerous if not done properly*
